The ski-in, ski-out house of about 10,000 square feet has seven bedrooms and is within walking distance of Beaver Creek village. The seller, real-estate investor Kevin Hayes, bought the home in early 2007 -- a few months after Mr. Ford died -- for $6.65 million. Mr. Hayes says he spent over $4 million on renovations, including redoing the wiring and plumbing and putting in a new kitchen and floors, as well as relandscaping.

During his presidency, Mr. Ford frequently took ski vacations in Vail. He got his choice of lots when the Beaver Creek resort was developed in the 1970s, according to the resort. In 1982, he spearheaded the AEI World Forum, an annual gathering of politicians and executives in Beaver Creek. He primarily lived in Rancho Mirage, Calif., where his widow, Betty, age 90, still resides.

Matt Fitzgerald and Anna Menz, of Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate, have the listing.

NFL's Strahan Buys New York Condo

Ford's Vail Retreat Listed at $14.9 Million

Just-retired NFL star Michael Strahan, who played a key role in the New York Giants' unlikely run to last season's Super Bowl championship, last week paid between $1.5 and $2 million for a loft in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood, says his broker, Frances Katzen, of Prudential Douglas Elliman.

The defensive end agreed to purchase the 2,000-square-foot, high-floor unit in 2006, but building-permit and other issues delayed the closing, Ms. Katzen says. The condominium, sold in an unfinished state, has 15-foot ceilings and sandblasted brick walls, and the building has full-time doormen.

In June, the 36-year-old Mr. Strahan retired from pro football and announced he was joining Fox Sports' pre-game show "NFL Sunday," based in Los Angeles. Mr. Strahan will use the loft as a pied-à-terre, Ms. Katzen says. He also owns homes in New Jersey, Texas and California.

Developer Peebles Asks $8.3 Million in D.C.

Real-estate developer and frequent home buyer-and-seller R. Donahue Peebles has listed his Washington, D.C., stone Tudor house for $8.3 million.

Mr. Peebles and his wife, Katrina, have bought, renovated and sold several homes and own houses in Coral Gables, Fla., and Bridgehampton, N.Y. The couple bought the 0.35-acre property in September for $5.9 million, records show. Mr. Peebles was raised in Washington.

The seven-bedroom house, erected in 1929, is on Thompson Circle, in the Massachusetts Avenue Heights neighborhood near St. Albans School. Christian Heurich, a brewmaster, built the home as a wedding gift to his daughter. The Peebleses landscaped and put in new wiring, a laundry room, a wine cellar and finished the basement, says agent Greg Gaddy, of Tutt, Taylor & Rankin Sotheby's International Realty, who shares the listing with colleague Caroll Dey.

Mr. Peebles is chief executive of Peebles Corp., whose projects include a hotel-and-condominium development in Las Vegas.
